He was full professor of Business Organization at Bocconi University, where he also served as Pro-rector (1998-2002) and president of the School of Business Administration (2003-2007).
He has taught at numerous Italian and foreign universities (Universities of Bologna, Trento, Parthenope in Naples, Stockholm School of Economics, INSEAD in Fontainebleau, Groupe HEC in Paris, ”Fudan University” in Shanghai, American University in Dubai). He has held positions on the Boards of numerous institutions: Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Venice Biennale, Cinecittà Holding, Istituto Luce, Banca Popolare di Milano, Lottomatica, Mikado Film, Anteo). He was executive chairman of Telecom Italia Media (publisher of La7 and MTV Italy) from 2012 to 2015. Today he sits on the boards of Dea Capital Real Estate Spa, Zegna Baruffa Spa, AnteoSpazioCinema Spa, Associazione Filarmonica della Scala and Fondazione Magistretti.
He has served as president of Fondazione CRT-Teatro dell’Arte in Milan. He is currently president of the Adecco Foundation. On the Scientific Committee of the Corriere della Sera Foundation, the Association of Personnel Directors (AIDP) Editorialist since 1990 of Il Corriere della Sera on economic issues. In Corriere della Sera‘s Sette magazine, he edits weekly Booklist column on favorite books that accompany the lives of celebrities. Since childhood he has always played with the paintbrush and devoted himself to watercolor.
He created the exhibition “Please be recognized at the intercom” at Il Milione Gallery in Milan and the exhibition “Urban Ghosts” at Nuages Gallery in Milan.
